Letting myself shine is something that I've always gone back and forth with. I can be quite a shy person so I have held myself back a lot...
At the same time I am confident that I am gifted, and yet I still second guess myself and hide away. We have all been hurt by someone or something and sometimes it causes us to close ourselves up to the world. That can be quite a dark and lonely space to be in. But I have come to realize that we all have different gifts and talents for a reason and despite our experiences, we should share them and shine in our individual ways.
I'm sharing this post because I know there are brilliant people out there who are held back by their thoughts, feelings and circumstances. And if this is you, I encourage you to let yourself shine in everything you do.
So here are things that have helped me:
1. Serve Others
I truly believe that you get what you give. If you help and support others around you you will receive the same back. And when you have a support system it is a lot easier to achieve your goals.
2. Don't Compare Yourself To Others
Comparison is truly the thief of joy. We are all on our own individual journeys and comparing ourselves to others is simply unfair. Especially in the age of social media, it's easy to see Instagram posts and assume that others are doing better than you. You should only focus on bettering yourself rather than competing against everyone else.
3. Take A Leap Of Faith
The fear of the unknown often hinders our faith. But then I read Matthew 5 vs 14 - 16 :
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."
With the knowledge that I was created to shine, I gain more confidence in my abilities and it keeps me going.
Whether you believe in the bible or not, adopting these values is fulfilling and will be beneficial in some way.
